Whitewater, Kan. -

It’s always good to get your first home win, especially if it comes on Homecoming Night.

The Remington Broncos did that Friday night against Inman, winning 22-13 to improve to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Heart Of America League.

After a scoreless first quarter, the visiting Teutons took advantage of a Remington fumble to take a 7-0 lead on a five-yard touchdown pass from Jake Friesen to Sam Martin. The Broncos would tie the game on their next possession, capping it with a two-yard touchdown dive on third-and-goal by fullback Jacob Coleman.

The Broncos drove downfield through the air late in the half, and they took the lead on a 38-yard pass from Zach Glover to Cory Beck, giving the Broncos a 14-7 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

Late in the third quarter, Inman put together a scoring drive, ending it with a one-yard run on fourth-and-goal by Trevor Grant. Beck blocked the extra point, keeping the Broncos up by a point heading to the final quarter.

Midway through the fourth, Glover found Jake Green for a 23-yard touchdown. An offsides penalty against Inman on the conversion moved the ball halfway to the goal line, and the Broncos decided to go for two. The gamble paid off with Glover finding Beck in the corner of the end zone to put Remington up by nine.

The Broncos had their best running game of the season, gaining 91 yards on the ground, including 70 from Coleman on 12 carries. Glover was 9-for-20 for 144 and two touchdowns with one interception. Green had four catches for 47 yards while Beck had two for 61 yards.

“The first thing we wanted to stop was their inside dive play,” said Remington head coach Chris Lawler. “We were able to do that, and then we tried to take Martin away, although he made some plays against us. For the most part, we were able to keep them out of the end zone. On offense, I think our offensive line really stepped up, which was big for our rushing game. In the passing game, we’re starting to find other receivers besides Jake Green who can make plays. It’s really going to help us if we can balance out our offense.”

The Broncos will travel to Brookville next Friday to face undefeated Ell-Saline at 7 p.m.
