The El Dorado Post 81 American Legion team's losing streak was extended to seven games after losing both games of a Thursday night doubleheader to Campus at McDonald Stadium.
The Colts beat El Dorado 16-4 in the first game, and 17-5 in the nightcap. The second game went five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Stuart Kelley was the losing pitcher in the first game, throwing 6 1/3 innings, but was able to keep El Dorado in the game until the final inning.
El Dorado (1-8) got two runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Ben Helfrich and Dalton Wheat; one run in the sixth on a RBI sacrifice fly by Kelley; and one in the seventh on a RBI single by Gareth Llewellyn.
The Colts scored in every inning of the opener but the fourth, but led only 6-3 going into the seventh. Campus finally got to Kelley as he was tiring on the mound, scoring six runs off of him before Matt Hockley relieved. Hockley then gave up four more runs as the Colts sent 16 men to the plate.
Kennedy Hladik went 3 for 4 with three runs and two runs batted in for Campus; Luke Harrell was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs; and Matthew Gerstenkorn knocked in three runs. Kyle Smith threw four innings and was the winning pitcher for the Colts.
Post 81 took an early lead in the nightcap on a RBI sacrifice fly by Baylor Parker in the first inning; but Campus (14-7) scored seven runs off losing pitcher Mark McNown in the top of the seven, with a three-run home run by Hladik the big shot.
McNown got one run back in the bottom of the second with a RBI double before two runs in the top of the third. El Dorado scored three runs in the bottom of the inning on a RBI groundout by Parker, a RBI single by Chris Dodson, and Llewellyn scored on a wild pitch.
Campus scored four runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to close out the game. Hladik hit triples in both innings to lead the Colts.
Gerstenkorn was the winning pitcher for Campus in the nightcap.
The doubleheader was the first of an 10-game homestand for El Dorado. Post 81 will host Kingman on Monday, Nickerson on Thursday, McPherson on June 29, and Augusta on July 2 to close out the home season.
