The El Dorado Post 81 team had their chances, but couldn’t keep control in the nightcap of their doubleheader against Nickerson, losing 13-10 to complete getting swept Thursday night in their American Legion doubleheader at McDonald Stadium.

Nickerson won the first game of the twinbill 5-2.

El Dorado (1-12) led by scores of 6-3 and 8-5 in the nightcap, and still led 10-8 before Nickerson exploded for four runs in the sixth inning and got an insurance run in the seventh to pick up the win.

Post 81 gave up three runs in the top of the first inning in the nightcap, but got six across the plate in the bottom of the second to take the lead.

Matt Hockley had the big hit for El Dorado with a bases-loaded double, while Tyler Patty hit a two-run single and Garrett White had a RBI single in the inning.

Nickerson scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, but El Dorado extended the lead back to three when Levi Parker scored from third on a misplayed infield fly, and Alex Brown followed with a RBI groundout.

After Nickerson tied the game with three runs in the top of the fifth inning, White hit a two-run double over the outfield for El Dorado’s final runs in the game. Nickerson responded with their late rally to win the game.

Gage Roberts was the losing pitcher for Post 81.

The first game saw three scoreless innings before Nickerson took control with four runs in the top of the fourth.

El Dorado got a run back in the bottom of the frame when Patty doubled, stole third and scored on Brown’s ground out, but Nickerson got the run back in the top of the fifth.

Post 81’s final run in the opener came on a RBI single by Patty.

Mark McNown was the losing pitcher for El Dorado.

Post 81 returns to action Monday with a doubleheader against McPherson. The first game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
