Wildcat swimmers sixth at final home meet

El Dorado, Kan. - The El Dorado High School girls’ swim team hosted their final meet of the season at the El Dorado Invitational Saturday.
The Wildcats finished sixth out of 12 teams with 112 points, placing behind Derby (237), Wichita Northwest (206), Maize (198), Wichita Trinity (167) and Winfield (122). Rounding out the field were McPherson (92), Wichita Southeast (88), Andover (79), Wichita Independent (28), Coffeyville (19) and Wichita South (16).
Leading the charge for coach Dennis Gumm’s Wildcats was Kaytlan Meyer, who finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (:25.85) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (:57.22). Meyer’s time in the 50 was good enough to qualify for the State Meet. Rachelle Warren also scored twice, placing fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.69) and sixth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.53).
Spencer Cune was third in the diving competition with 255.65 points while teammate Megen Bromlow finished fourth with 239.85 points.
Melissa Martin placed 12th in the 200 freestyle (2:27.30) while Megan Fleener finished 18th in the 100 backstroke (1:25.05). Amber Heslop was 19th in the 100 butterfly (1:33.17) while Joanna Hannum was El Dorado’s top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle, placing 21st in 7:47.49.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Meyer, Warren, Shelby McAllister and Hayley Fellers finished fourth in 1:50.63. The 200 medley relay team of Warren, Meyer, Martin and McAllister placed seventh in 2:05.62. The 400 freestyle relay team of Martin, McAllister, Fleener and Kacie Owens was 10th in 4:40.54.
The AVCTL Division II-III Meet will take place in Newton next Saturday. The diving competition will start at 9 a.m., and the swimming events will begin at 1 p.m.
