The El Dorado Broncos clawed back from five runs down early in their matchup with the Topeka Giants at Jerry Robertson Field, but they allowed runs in the seventh and eighth innings to lose 7-6, ending a 25-game non-Jayhawk League win streak that dated back to the end of the 2008 season.
The Giants scored two runs in the first and three in the third to push ahead, but El Dorado (12-11) came back with a two-run single by Tyler Smith in the fourth and added three more in the sixth thanks to two Topeka errors.
El Dorado got one run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly, but left the tying run stranded at second base.
The Broncos play two games tonight at the start of Parent’s Weekend. El Dorado will play a seven-inning game against a team from Denver at 7 p.m., then face the Gunnison (Colo.) Colts in another seven-inning contest expected to start at 9 p.m.
