El Dorado High School senior bowler Nik Eagle will have the opportunity to continue his competitive bowling in May.
Eagle, who competed with the high school team, will be going to a Teen Masters Regional bowling event in Morgantown, W.Va., May 1 through 3.
“I heard about Teen Masters from a friend and decided it was something I felt I was good enough and wanted to do,” he said.
He is looking forward to the competition and seeing how it goes.
To prepare, he will be focusing on the mentality aspect of the game and building mental stamina so he can be focused on the game and leave everything else outside the bowling alley.
The top 33 percent of the bowlers at the competition will go on to Nationals where they will compete for $100,000 in scholarships.
Eagle started bowling competitively when he was 10 years old and has bowled on youth leagues and in tournaments, and was on the high school team four years.
“My biological father was a bowler and that got me interested,” he said.
He enjoys the atmosphere of the bowling alley, where he can be found during most of his spare time.
“When somebody says ‘think of a happy place,’ that would be a bowling alley for me,” said Eagle, who basically grew up in the bowling alley.
Eagle currently is raising money to attend the Regional event and has been sponsored by the Sweet Adelines and Brandon Demo, who is sponsoring him with the Monster logo, but he is still needing additional sponsors to cover the expenses.
“He is very consistent and has a lot of heart,” said Peggy Wilson, with the Sweet Adelines.
