The Butler Community College softball season was supposed to start more than three weeks ago, but the snowy weather both here in Kansas and in locations in Texas has kept the Lady Grizzlies from getting any games in on the season.
So the Lady Grizzlies took things into their own hands and called in some junior varsity teams from Kansas four-year schools for some impromptu games, winning all five of their games at East Park.
The Lady Grizzlies recorded two routs on Friday — beating the Haskell JV 13-0 and the Tabor JV 13-2. Butler was able to record three more victories on Saturday, beating the McPherson JV squad 4-2, Tabor JV 2-1 and St. Marys 6-0.
In the St. Mary’s victory, sophomore Morgan Herrig and freshmen Leah Becker and Magean De La Torre hit home runs, while freshman Courtney Kasson and sophomore Regina Lehr combined for the shutout.
