Leon, Kan. - The Bluestem High School girls’ track team has set two new school records this season. Well, it’s actually three, but it happened twice in the same event at the same meet.
Colleen Turner broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 108 feet, 5 inches, at the Larry Brown Invitational at Remington High School May 2. Teammate Karly Long, the previous record-holder at 106-1, took the record back later in the meet with a toss of 115-8, eventually finishing second.
The other school record came from Whitney Cox, who topped her own record of 33-3 in the triple jump with an effort of 34-2 at the Bluestem Invitational in Leon April 15.
The Lion girls’ and boys’ track teams will compete at the Central Plains League Meet in Cheney Friday, starting at 4 p.m.
