El Dorado senior Alex Wygle had been on this big stage before, but he wanted this year's trip to mean a little more.
He got what he wanted after finishing tied for 20th place in the 5-1A State bowling meet at Northrock Lanes Thursday. Wygle, the lone Wildcat who qualified for State at Regionals last week, finished his high school career with a 642 series (a 239 first game and 221 second game). The score was good enough to earn a medal, something he hadn't been able to do before.
"I got to have fun. I looked more towards it as fun instead of a competition," Wygle said about the experience. "...Heck of a way to end your senior year."
Wygle started off strongly in the first two games, but had one small lull in the final game that dropped him down a few spots.
"I like the way it started off. I was doing pretty good, staying consistent," he said. "I stayed consistent the first two games. Third game, I kind of started to slide too much, then finally, at the end, I gained it back."
Chase Holton bowled a 515 series for the Wildcats (including a 207 in the second game).
