El Dorado, Kan. - The El Dorado Broncos got their Fourth of July Baseball Festival off to a winning start by holding off the Park City Rangers, 8-7, Thursday night at McDonald Stadium. The Broncos started quickly offensively with two runs in the top of the first inning. Heath Wall led off with a single and Mike Williams bunted for a hit. Robert Abel reached on an error to load the bases before Preston Springer drove in Wall with a sacrifice fly. After Tanner Rindels hit into a force play at second base, he was caught in a rundown between first and second, but stayed in it long enough for Williams to score from third. The Rangers busted loose for five runs on four hits and a key Bronco error in the bottom of the second off starting pitcher Colby Killian. The Broncos, however, would bounce right back and tie the game with a three-run third. Abel walked with one out, Springer singled and Rindels singled to score Abel. After a walk to Chris Biguenet loaded the bases, Brad Weiss singled to score Springer to make it 5-4. With two out, Jared Broadbent singled back up the middle to score Rindels, but Biguenet was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. El Dorado took the lead with two more runs in the fourth. Williams singled with one out, and Abel followed with an RBI double. After going to third on a deep fly ball by Springer, Abel scored on another RBI single by Rindels. Another Bronco error allowed the Rangers to score a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 7-6. The Broncos would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Springer singled and went to second on a bunt by Rindels. Biguenet followed with an RBI double to right-center to make it 8-6. In the bottom of the seventh, Bronco reliever Nick Ward allowed a two-out solo home run to Park City’s Justin Kemp, but Ward retired the next batter to end the game. “We’re trying to build up some momentum,” said Broncos owner-manager J.D. Schneider. “We wanted to play some of our guys tonight who have struggled a bit offensively lately, and they came through with some clutch hits. Our bunt game was successful getting runners into scoring position, and we were able to drive them in.”
