The Flinthills Muddhens finished nearly a perfect season in the Ponytail Girls 13 and Under League.
They finished with an overall record of 10-1, as well as earning the titles of league and tournament champions.
They seemed to get their motivation from their first game.
“The season started with the very first game a loss,” said Coach Richard Idleman. “It seem liked with being a young team it was going to be a long season.”
But that was not the case.
“This year’s team didn’t want to lose so they stepped up,” Idleman said. “It was nice to have a team that didn’t get real shook.”
He said the girls would ask if they were winning or losing and even when they were losing, they would just keep on playing.
He said they also would keep him calm when they were behind.
“I really enjoyed the chemistry of them,” he said.
The girls showed their determination three times in particular when they faced the team they would play in the championship.
Twice they went into extra innings and won each game by one run. Then when they faced that team a third time right before league, they were down 8-15, but still came back to win.
The girls learned well from those games and never trailed when they met up again in the playoffs.
“The girls just went out and took control of the game,” Idleman said.
“They’re just a great group of kids. They played well together.”
