The El Dorado American Legion team, made up of El Dorado High School juniors and seniors, brought home a victory in the Wellington tournament last weekend.
Wellington hosted the tournament in conjunction with their Wheat Festival.
El Dorado played six games and three days during the tournament, but it was the final three that mattered the most.
“We won the last three in bracket play,” said Head Coach Rick Smith, “culminating with an 11-10 win.”
They beat Kingman, followed by Ponca City, to meet up with Wellington in the championship game.
That game was a seesaw battle between the two. El Dorado scored the winning run in the seventh inning.
“Every kid contributed, whether on the field or sacrificing a bunt,” Smith said. “Tyler Barnes went the distance that game in Wellington.”
The game was a highlight of the season for Barnes.
“It was just really competitive,” Barnes said. “It went back and forth inning after inning.”
“We were down three runs and we came back and won it,” added team member Chris Smith.
