The official count is in: a record crowd of 12,698 fans filled Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium for the “Battle Of Champions” last Thursday.

The game featured top-ranked Butler Community College against #2-ranked Blinn (Texas) College, won by Blinn, 23-20. The game matched up the past two NJCAA national champions, as Butler claimed the title last year while Blinn won it all in 2006.

The crowd is officially the biggest in Butler football history and potentially ranks as one of the largest in the history of all junior-college football.

“It was a great atmosphere, one of the best we’ve ever played in,” said Butler head football coach Troy Morrell. “We appreciate all the fans coming out and supporting our program.”

Butler plays at Garden City Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Kansas Now Cox Cable Channel 22, as well as on KNSS Radio, 1330-AM.
