The Butler County Cubs claimed the National Baseball Congress 16-under Hap Dumont state tournament last weekend in Wichita.
The Cubs won both games of pool play, beating the Topeka Capitals 17-5 and the Sumner County Shockers 8-3. The Cubs beat the Topeka Giants 11-5 in quarterfinal action; beat the Wichita Dodgers 5-1 in the semifinals and beat the Kansas Crush 12-6 in the championship game.
The Cubs (24-7) qualified to play in the 17-Under NBC Hap Dumont World Series in Topeka next week.
Players on the team include Quinton Morgan and Aaron Riffel from El Dorado; Cody Easterday from Leon; and Logan Hiser and Tyler Roberts from Augusta. Other players include Quintin Dougherty, Blake Buzard, Blake Davidson, Rolando Segovia, Levi Hacker, Sean Maruo, JC Baxley, Dakota Vaughn, Joey San Miguel and Byce Killian. Coaches are Tonto Baxley and Troy Roberts.
