El Dorado, Kan. - As mentioned earlier this week, 13-year-old Dominic Lara of Benton Middle School has qualified to play in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships July 24-29 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
This weekend, Dominic’s mother, Cheri, will be holding a fund-raising raffle-style drawing to help raise money to send him to Florida for the tournament.
“It’s going to cost about $1,800 for the trip,” Cheri Lara said. “This is just one way we’re raising funds so he can go there.”
Cheri, who works at Salon H at 110 East Pine in El Dorado, is selling tickets for $1.00 each for the drawing, which takes place Saturday at 2 p.m. at Salon H. The prize is a Chi ceramic flatiron, which has a value of $200, Cheri Lara says.
“It’s something I think a lot of people would like to have,” Cheri added. “We’ll raise money for the trip to Florida, and someone will win a great prize at the same time.”
Dominic won two Kansas Junior Golf Association (KJGA) events and qualified for the Optimist International Championships by shooting a 76 at a qualifier meet at Salina’s Municipal Golf Course June 12. He will also compete with the KJGA South Central Sectional Team in a three-day tournament at Wichita’s Reflection Ridge July 21-23. Lara will attempt to defend his 2007 Wichita City Junior Championship August 6-7 at Wichita’s Sim Park.
For any questions or information about Saturday’s drawing, please contact Cheri Lara at Salon H at 321-4510 or 320-4510 or at 320-7221.
