The 2009-10 Jayhawk West men’s basketball conference player and coach of the year come from the Butler Grizzlies.
Sophomore forward Caleb Walker was named player of the year, while Grizzlies’ coach Michael Bargen was voted coach of the year in voting by the conference coaches released Wednesday.
Walker led the Grizzlies in scoring (16.2 points per game) and rebounding (8.0 boards) and was second in assists (76). Walker was also a first-team selection by the conference.
Bargen helped coach the Grizzlies to a 26-5 overall record and 13-3 conference going into Saturday’s Region VI game against Cloud County. It was his second straight season to win more than 20 games and has a three-year record at Butler of 59-35.
Freshman point guard Anthony Cousin was also named to the conference’s first team. The Alaska native averaged 12.2 points per game and led Butler in assists (140) and steals (42).
Sophomore guard Alysia Hart was placed on the second team of the Jayhawk West’s women’s basketball all-conference team. Hart averaged 15.4 points per game and second in steals (64).
Abby Fawcett was an honorable mention selection for the Lady Grizzlies, averaging 14.2 points per game and leading the team in steals (76) and three-pointers (80).
