El Dorado, Kan. - The El Dorado High School softball team had won five of six games following an 0-8 start. Then, they ran into the AVCTL Division III leaders from Rose Hill Thursday. The host Rockets swept the Lady Cats in Rose Hill, holding off a late rally to win the opener 6-3, then rolling to a 9-1 win in the nightcap. El Dorado slipped to 2-6 in league play and 5-11 overall while Rose Hill improved to 8-0, 14-2, going into a key league doubleheader Saturday at Augusta. The Lady Cats actually led in both games at Rose Hill. In the opener, El Dorado scored first with a run in the second inning. Rose Hill quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, then added two more each in the fifth and sixth innings. The ‘Cats scored twice in the seventh, but the rally fell short. Rose Hill finished the opener with 11 hits to El Dorado’s five. Defensively, the Wildcats played an errorless game. Pitcher Katie Byard took the loss for El Dorado, allowing six runs on 11 hits over six innings. El Dorado got off to a quick start in the second game as well, scoring a run in the top of the first. The lead held until the third, when Rose Hill scored a run to tie the game. The Rockets got to Wildcat starter Alyssa Ruff for four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to bust the game open. Rose Hill finished with nine runs on nine hits while the Lady Cats were held to one run on four hits. El Dorado committed two errors to Rose Hill’s one in the nightcap. El Dorado will finish their regular season with back-to-back doubleheaders. The Lady Cats will play at Clearwater Monday at 4:30 p.m., then return home to face Andover Tuesday at 4:30. Tuesday will be Senior Day at EHS. This year’s four Wildcat seniors are Kellie Fagg, Lauren Roedel, Maddie Satterfield and Leeann Smith.
