Towanda, Kan. - The El Dorado High School track teams appear to be ready for the league, regional and state meets following a sweep of the team titles at the Circle Invitational Thursday in Towanda. The Wildcat girls won going away with 128.5 points, with Clearwater second with 100.5. The Wildcat boys scored 127 points to edge Clearwater (123) for the team title. The girls were led by two state-best marks. Laura Nightengale won the 800 meters in a time of 2:15.48, the fastest in the state overall this season. Nightengale also won the 1600 (5:12.0). Jaimie House topped her own school record and state-best mark in the pole vault, clearing 11-7 at Circle. That height equals the 4A State Meet record set last year by Chanute’s Shalee Ratliff. Justine Davenport doubled up by winning the long jump (16-1 1/2) and the triple jump (35-1 1/2) and finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles. Molly Milbourn backed up Nightengale, placing second in the 1600 and third in the 800. Kay Riedl finished second in the 100, 200 and 400, all behind Andover Central’s Tiffany Bias, the defending 4A state champion in the 200 and 400. The boys’ team was led by a 1-2-3 finish in the 800 from Andrew Wagner (2:00.68), Dale Nuckolls (2:05.48) and Bailey Brush (2:05.59). Wagner also won the 1600 (4:32.0) and teamed with Randy Johnson, Patrick Ward and Jason West to place second in the 4x400 relay (3:35.45). Johnson won the javelin (166-0) and placed fourth in the 400 (:53.02). Ward was a close third in the 100 (:11.25) while Jacob Meirowsky was fourth and Lucas Dutton placed seventh. Meirowsky added a fifth in the 200. Jesus Carrasco was third in the 1600 and the 3200 while Ben Jiles was sixth in the 1600. Dallas Funk cleared 11-6 to finish second in the pole vault while Brandon Maus was third in the discus and fifth in the shot put. Kalynn Scott doubled by placing fourth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump. Jordan Holladay was fifth in the long jump, Michael Kuder was seventh in the 300 hurdles and J.D. Byers placed seventh in the discus. The AVCTL Division III Meet will take place at El Dorado Friday at 4 p.m.
